Ultiworld Disc Golf’s coverage of the 2021 PDGA Pro World Championships is presented by Skybreed Discs, a top online retailer and preferred vendor of the 2021 Ledgestone Insurance Open, and Aria Discs, a new disc golf brand making discs designed for beginners.

The Open Women tackled Mulligans for their final time during the 2021 World Championships. History repeated itself and blue squares lit up the scorecards for a lot of competitors. The race for the top spot is still close and features a classic rivalry.

  • Catrina Allen showed dominance on the fairways leading the pack at 94%. After starting off her hot round with three birdies in a row she only finished the card with two bogeys on the day. After a clinical drive on 12, she birdied four of the next five holes. Her 6-under par round was good for a 1001 rating and she leads the field heading into the final day. She sits at 13-under par total with a one stroke advantage on Paige Pierce.
  • The five-time world champion is still very much in striking distance for a Championship Saturday. Paige Pierce cleaned up her putting and hit 80% from C1X due to leading the field in parked percentage at 22%. After birdieing six of her first eight, the back nine still caused issues as it has for much of the week. Pierce bogeyed three of her last five due to OB and finished the afternoon 5-under par. She currently sits at 12-under par and ready to battle at The Fort.
  • Lisa Fajkus rounds out of the top three after another consistent day. Her 1-under par round was accompanied by 60% C1X putting and 50% fairway hits. She was not able to match the hot rounds of the top competitors and needs a massive final day to battle for the top spot. She sits in third place at 6-under par.
  • Kristin Tattar only saw blue and white on her scorecard after finishing a bogey-free round. Like Allen, the big field played to her strengths, and she hit the fairway on 94% of the holes. After an impressive 5-under par round she was able to move into a position to potentially take a place on the podium. She heads into the final day with a score of 4-under par.
  • Ace Alert: Sarah Hokom nails a walk-off ace on hole 18 to cap off her 5-under par round. She started the round hot with birdies on three of her first five and only saw one bogey to her round. Her scrambling was the name of her game at 88% (7 of 8) and keeps her in the hunt at 2-under par.

Statline

Catrina Allen had an incredible moving day on a course that plays very well to her strengths. The bread and butter of her round was her driving, where she was able to gain 7.33 strokes on the field from tee-to-green. Paige Pierce was in second at 5.56, but this dominance in the field is why she finds herself at the top of the leaderboard.
